Why Visit Zaragoza, Spain????

Solo Travel

On my way from Pamplona to Barcelona, I made a stop at Zaragoza. I arrived in Zaragoza around 9 in the morning, the sun was slowly breaking through the dark sky and its rays were warming the morning ever so slowly.

Zaragoza is the Capital of Aragon and the main city of the Ebro Valley. The first thing that caught my eye as I was driving into Zaragoza was this elegant Gothic style Stone Bridge standing proudly over the Ebro river.

The town was just waking up. The smell of freshly brewed coffee, chocolate and churro made me feel warm inside even though the weather was a little on the chilly side been an autumn morning in the north of Spain. Walking around with my very first churro and hot chocolate, I am lost for words for both the taste of this traditional breakfast and the beauty of the city center.

The town was getting ready for the Hispanic Day celebration, which was in few days time. The12th of October is a national holiday in Spain. The stage was set in the town square in Zaragoza for the celebrations with lots of beautifully dressed kids waiting to get on to perform, sing, dance and embrace their history and keep it alive in today for an ever-changing society.

A relaxing stroll through the streets of Zaragoza was like walking through 2000 years of history. I was mesmerized by the combination of Islamic, Gothic, Roman and Moorish architecture. It seems over the years every one of these cultures and religions contributed to what Zaragoza is today.

Endless amounts of cafes and restaurants, catering from casual to fine dining. Tapas are very popular here as they are in most of Spain. Zaragoza sitting on the rivers bank and only 260km from the Mediterranean is big on seafood. Fashion stores from a traditional to high-end label, trendy little bars, and elegant spacious boulevards truly impressed me.
