A FEMALE SOLO TRAVELLER
Traveling solo is exciting, challenging and rewarding – the key to enjoying every moment of your adventure is to Be organized, Be Alert, Be Smart and Be Confident. Traveling solo in your 20’s is different to when you are in your 30’s, to when you are in your 40’s and so on it goes, but with my nine simple tips you will feel confident and safe, doesn’t matter what age you are or which country you are visiting.
(1) Travel insurance
Must have, no if’s and no but’s … A lot of people think itis a waste of money. Make sure your insurance includes medical and loss of property. I use World Normads Travel Insurance. You can get a quote by clicking on the image.
(2) Cash Passport Card
This is an excellent way of carrying all different currencies on one card; you can change the currency when the exchange rates are reasonable and you can reload your money while you are overseas. It is safe and simple to use. It works like a credit card with a pin number. You can withdraw money from cash machines. If you use a credit card or debit card, it will accumulate bank fees and on the daily exchange rates which end up being quite expensive
(3) A Mobile Phone and Charger
Traveling alone requires you to be organized and safe. If you have a prepaid phone, you need to make sure you have enough credit to last you for the time you are away. A charger is essential, once the battery is flat, that’s that. Charges are expensive to buy overseas, and cheap ones can damage your phone.
(4) A Friend / Family you report to on a daily basis
Solo travelers need to Travel smart, that means a regular reporting system, it can be a simple SMS or Email or Facebook or Viber, message to a friend. If the friend or family cannot get hold of you OR haven’t heard from you at least, they can call the hotel or police for help.
(5) A lightweight, easy to carry suitcase or bag pack
Solo traveling means you are going to have to carry all your bags and in some cases for a fair distance. If you are traveling on Trains, Ferries, and Buses you will have to be able to walk in and out of the terminals without breaking your back, be very very careful when asking for help, you might not see your bags again.
(6) A stylish, comfortable walking shoe
Shoes that look like sports shoes (runners/sneakers), spells TOURIST from miles, as a solo female traveler you want to blend in the crowd. Shoes are the biggest give away. You see girls dress up nice, and then they go and put on runners with a cute dress or skirt. What is all that about? I know as a tourist we walk a lot and I love walking, but I am anti-sports shoes, especially when you can get so many comfortable, good quality, stylish walking shoes.
(7) Two handbags
One to carry your things like a water bottle, umbrella, makeup, camera, etc. and one small one that you can hang across your shoulder and chest for your cash, card & passport – pickpocketing is big in Europe, Asia, parts of America, etc. The last thing you need is to be a victim of pickpocketing. I found having two bags works well.
(8) Photocopy your card, passport and travel documents
Leave this with the friend or family member you will be reporting daily to and also email a copy to yourself. This is only in case of emergency; if your friend or family is not able to contact you, they will have all the documents that will help with insurance, police, etc
(9) Immunisation
I am not stress this enough, if you are traveling have your immunisaction up to date. Talk to a travel doctor, and get the right advice. Your health is very importand and taking short cut can put you in danger.

Yes agree with everything there, thank you,
Thank you Jan 🙂
Love your travel tips Yogita. I think they would apply to anyone travelling, together or alone. I found that you can purchase mobile battery chargers for your mobile phones now which I think would be perfect for travel and also those cheap overseas SIM cards. Your luggage and handbag is also extremely important. I have learnt this the hard way!
