Join me for Tapas in Burgos, Spain
Driving North from Madrid, you will find the City of Burgos, A true medieval Splendour. Burgos was the capital of the unified kingdom of Castilla-Leon for five centuries. Famous for its masterpieces of Spanish Gothic architecture, The Cathedral of Burgos (world Heritage), located on the bank of river Arlanzon, this city gives you great natural feel with lots of trees and open spaces to enjoy the outdoors.

A visit to this Cathedral is a must, I hear a lot of people say, you have been to one you have seen it all…. in this case, that is not true, the interior of this Cathedral will blow your mind. My favorite is the Golden Staircase, saying that every corner I turned, my jaw drops and my eyes twinkles, the details, time and love put in each piece truly is inspirational.

After spending some time in the Cathedral, I took a self-guided Tapas tour. This was an experience, I would not forget.
First stop, The cafe was not very busy so I thought, this is a great way to ease into being a local. I sit at the bar, looking at all the different selection of Tapas in front of me, no tags on them so who knows what is …. The waitress is just avoiding me, I think I spelled out I am new to this …. hehe. Anyway, finally, I point to what looked like blood sausage with red pepper on a piece of bread, a bite size. She gave me my order, didn’t say a word or smiled or anything….. I thought to my self, how rude. But I carried on, enjoyed the food. It was different. Was a rocky start I have to say.

Next stop, this bar was busy, very tiny, but somehow it could hold about 14 people standing, talking, eating, drinking, I push my way to the bar, the handsome waiter smiles, (thank you I say in my head). I start pointing to what looked like octopus and olives, he put them on a plate, sprinkles with salt and say’s any Drink miss…. in English….oh that made my day.

Next Stop, another café that was so busy, the bar is packed with Tapas style food, as far as my eyes can see, it is food. People are queuing up for there order, I am trying to remember the right Spanish words to order. I had to wait for a good while, but I didn’t mind, as it gave me a chance to people watch, listen how others order there food. It is finally my turn….. Brain freeze… so I said as loud as I could Hola! followed by a big smile…. then came the pointing of each bit of food I wanted. Haha. Lucky for me she was nice and smiled back.
Being Spanish is not as easy as it looks.

Other places to visit in Burgos
1. Museo De La Evolucion
2. Monasterio De Las Huelgas
3. Castillo De Burgos
This city takes you back to 884. That was when it was founded, now that is something. The history of this City and Food will definitely impress you. The Language barrier is really hard, I will keep working on learning as many Spanish words as possible.
It was Perfect Place to stop over for Lunch and sightseeing on my drive from Madrid to Santander
