You will find Santander in the north of Spain. This is where you will find a lot of old history but with new modern buildings? The story goes that after a lot of damage from a big fire, Santander had to rebuild its city. This is a great coastal town, with a big stretch of Esplanade on the oceanfront built for all kinds of outdoor activities and living. Amazing beaches, beautiful landscapes, natural look makes this town very lively.

The best thing about Santander is, it is still a secret to the rest of the world, the international tourists and outside world have not yet discovered the beauty of this little treasure.

I arrived late afternoon in Santander, the weather on the Autumn day was nice and sunny with a hint of chill in the air. The beautiful blue sky and the natural green trees all around the promenade made the drive into this town very beautiful, warm and welcoming.

I took a nice long walk on the promenade, enjoying the sun, fresh air, the amazing palaces, architecture and their famous casino. There are many little cafes and restaurants to choose from if you want to enjoy a glass of wine or coffee and people watch. People are nice, just remember Santander is not big on international tourism so locals do not speak English well. They try and in hotels etc, they do speak English, try to use Spanish words and be polite and patient, remember to smile. A big smile will speak louder than words 🙂

I am so glad that I added this to my itinerary for my Spain tour. Just between you and me, this town has stolen my heart.

Santander is the main city of Cantabria, (Spanish region). In the 19th century, this city was popular with the politicians and wealthy Spanish people to come for there holidays. The locals say Santander is between the green and the blue because of its location with the mountain on one side and sea on the other. The amazing landscape of this city attracted a lot of Spanish wealthy people.
