Travelling HELPS your Brain
Brain / Mental health – the subject no one wants to talk about. The Brain is classed as dark and mysterious. Brain a medical term used by doctors, not a term normal people like you and I would use.
Why is that the case????
We talk about health. We talk about food. We talk about fashion. We talk family. We talk about kids. We talk about everything that makes us feel good or bad except mental health.
Interesting how we spend so much time on our appearance. The need to get attention or to be appreciated drives us humans to make some very bad choices. We starve ourselves, we do quick weight loss programs, we stay in bad relationships, we wear so much makeup, we wear expensive clothes, we even go to the extent of getting plastic surgery, implants etc…..we spend so much time and money on material things, buy big fancy house, buy the latest model car etc for what????
It makes us FEEL GOOD / HAPPY, but isn’t this feel good / happiness very short lived.
For me LOOKING GOOD is NOT important, FEELING GOOD is, I don’t have any desire to look skinny or pretty but I have a very strong desire to be healthy, therefor I eat healthy and I exercise my body. I know a lot of you do the same.
The problem is that we are only half way healthy even though we eat healthy and exercise. We can have a healthy body but with out a healthy mind we have no hope. Our body is connected to our brain. Our brain controls all our thoughts and actions.
Things that contributes to unhealthy mental health… (in my opinion)
(1) Over work and stress about money / finance
(2) Stress about appearance, family, relationship accumulated over time
(3) Genetic, Chemistry and hormones
(4) Substance abuse (drugs, alcohol)
(5) Negative thoughts and low self esteem
(6) Violence, relationship breakup, isolation
Stress and Life TAKES OVER
All of the above causes depression and according to the World Health Organisation, depression will be one of the biggest health problems worldwide by the year 2020.
Mental illnesses are of different types and degrees of severity. It can affect any body, young and old. Some of the major types are depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar mood disorder, personality disorders, and eating disorders.
Eat Healthy and Fresh
So what do we do to keep our brain healthy????
(1)Talk about your feelings
(2) Eat healthy
(3) Exercise and meditate
(4) Sleep 8 hours a night
(5) Surround yourself with like minded and positive people.
(6) See a doctor – (you are not alone)
(7) Hobbies (my favorite – Travel)
Italy, Colosseum
Travelling helps your brain come Alive.
Don’t travel like a tourist (lay on the beach / by the pool all day, over eat and over drink). Travel like a traveller, connect with all your senses and let the magic happen.
The excitement of been in a new place, meeting new people, learning new language, eating different food, listing to music sung in different languages or dancing the night away under the stars…
Natures high… dancing under the stars
These are the natures highs, it produces the serotonin and endorphin hormones that controls and affects our mood. Serotonin acts as a neurotransmitter, while endorphins are hormones that work with the endocrine system and it is released in our bodies.
One of my happy moments was when I was lost in this beautiful city in Italy, I had no idea how to get back to the hotel. I am walking by the river, admiring the beauty of the surrounding and the fact that I am lost is not scary too me at all. Why was that? I ask for directions, but between his English and my Italian …. I was still lost. I get a Chai Latte and sit down watch the world go by. I recognised one of the guys walking past, was a guest at the hotel I was staying at. I saw him this morning. I run after him, laughing and crying at the same time. Have you ever done that??? He was heading back to the hotel so I just tagged along. Things have a way of working out.

Simple things in life are the best things in life. People say nothing in life is free but I believe all the best things in life are free.
You might not be affected by mental illness, taking care and been aware doesn’t hurt. Like they say prevention is better then cure. Please be mindful of people around you, one in every five people are affected by mental illness and we can help by been more aware and by giving people our time.
Just a simple smile makes a persons day. On this Mental health day I am asking you to smile to a stranger and hug a friend …. spread the love
My passion is travelling and my mission is ending Loneliness /Depression. Today is mental health day and I want to reach as many people as possible.
